Spring Fever and Earth Day

Earth Day is tomorrow and as I type this, my hands are dry from washing, but they are still dirty and soil is beneath my fingernails. I’ve been working in the yard, planting bulbs and preparing the yard for the 2015 growing season. I’ve done a great deal of winter sowing and my kale, red orach, spinach, and mesclun have come up. I know as the days continue to warm and the sun continues to shine, my ground cherries and tomatillos will show their faces, too.

It’s been quiet around here as a result of all this Spring Fever. Indeed, over our actual spring break we were literally feverish with some sort of bug. We apparently had it better than most, but still it’s never pleasant to be sick when it’s supposed to be a break time. But that’s how it goes.

We officially finished up homeschool and got their testing and evaluations done. It’s always big time-consuming task to put together their portfolio, even when we finish in March or April, officially at least. They’re required to have 990 hours of instruction time and they each exceeded that by 60+ hours by March 9th. Next year is a big step- high school and I’ve been working on designing their curriculum in history and English. We’re doing Ancients and Samara is pleased as she can be that we’ll be doing a half credit of Mythology to go with it.

All of this to say, we haven’t much been creating new recipes. In fact, we’ve been following the path of least resistance with some one-pot meals and our usual suspects of fast, easy meals. But I can feel the creativity recharging and so we’ll probably be posting new things soon. In the meantime, enjoy some of these pics of my sprouting garden.
